Activated C1s is a protein complex involved in the complement system, which is a part of the innate immune system. C1s is a serine protease that cleaves C4 and C2 in the classical pathway of complement activation, leading to the formation of C3 convertase. The activation of C1s is initiated by binding of C1q to antigen-antibody complexes or other ligands. The C1s protein is encoded by the C1S gene, which is located on chromosome 12. Dysregulation of the complement system and C1s activation has been implicated in various diseases, including autoimmune disorders, infections, and inflammatory conditions.
