Expression of Glucose Transporter 4 in rat olfactory bulb - Immunohistochemical staining of immersion-fixed, free floating rat brain frozen sections using Anti-GLUT4 Antibody (#AGT-024), (1:400), followed by goat- Anti-rabbit-AlexaFluor-488. GLUT4 staining (green) appears in some glomeruli (“G” and horizontal arrows), but not in others (vertical arrow). Cell nuclei are stained with DAPI (blue).

Reconstitution: 25 µL, 50 µL or 0.2 mL double distilled water (DDW), depending on the sample size. The antibody ships as a lyophilized powder at room temperature. Upon arrival, it should be stored at -20C. The reconstituted solution can be stored at 4C, protected from the light, for up to 1 week. For longer periods, small aliquots should be stored at -20C. Avoid multiple freezing and thawing. Centrifuge all antibody preparations before use (10000 X g 5 min).

This gene is a member of the solute carrier family 2 (facilitated glucose transporter) family and encodes a protein that functions as an insulin-regulated facilitative glucose transporter. In the absence of insulin, this integral membrane protein is sequestered within the cells of muscle and adipose tissue. Within minutes of insulin stimulation, the protein moves to the cell surface and begins to transport glucose across the cell membrane. Mutations in this gene have been associated with noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).
